Czech business mission to Morocco

The Confederation of Industry’s delegation accompanied the Czech minister of industry and trade on his official visit.

The business mission organized by the Confederation of Industry accompanying the Czech minister of trade and industry Jan Mládek on his visit to Morroco on 6th-9th June brought home a series of ideas for cooperation between the two countries.

„It was a very successful journey,“ the Confederation’s president Jaroslav Hanák pointed out. „Our hosts showed an enormous interest in the Czech Republic and confirmed that in Morocco, we have a good reputation. Our Moroccan partners are interested in bilateral meetings and cooperation with our Confederation.“

Morocco and the Czech Republic are traditional business partners and the bilateral trade turnover raised almost six times in the last ten years. In 2014, it amounted to 329 million USD and showed a potential to raise up to 500 million USD within next two years.

As Hanák stressed, the bilateral trade potential is not fully exploited. The participants in the business mission have shown interest in participating in the infrastructure development and the transport system modernization. Bilateral cooperation could be further developed in the energy and mining sector, transport infrastructure expansion, automobile and air industry as well as in the health care, agriculture, food and defense sector.

One quarter of all Czech imports to Morocco is represented by motor vehicles deliveries. The opportunities are well opened for Czech airport equipment, small aircrafts, sport aircrafts and radiolocation equipment. There are many opportunities for the Czech companies to participate in the municipal projects as water and waste management or municipal transport infrastructure development.

The Moroccan side has shown interest in involving the Czech partners in processing of expert opinions in the mining and geological survey fields. One of the main topics was the tourist industry because Morocco is not a traditional destination for the Czech tourists.

With his Moroccan counterpart Moulay Hafi El Alamy, the Czech minister of industry and trade signed a memorandum of understanding on Monday 8th June.

In the last time, a demand for more electricity and sewage plants is growing in Morocco and the country is developing its renewable resources sector. Czech companies have been thus invited to participate in a public tender for a solar power station project.

„We consider Morocco a gate to the Subsaharian Africa,“ Hanák stressed. „The Moroccan GDP is growing 4,5 percent per year and the country has achieved a large economic growth. Very important is that the country is one of the very few in the region with a long-term stability.“
