Confederation on January 2016 unemployment

The difference between the supply and demand in the employment market is still increasing.

By means of the Czech Labour Office, the employers are presenting as much jobs as never since the onset of the economic crisis in 2008. The number of available jobs has increased by 45,5 thousand to 108 000.

Since the companies are not obliged to report how many jobs they are offering, the demand for workers could be much higher. On the other hand, the overall number of people without work has reached 468 thousand in January, and 461 000 of them are able to start a new job immediately.

The January 2016 numbers confirm the long-term positive trend. The number of jobseekers is diminishing and the number of available jobs is increasing.

Nevertheless, the January data show that the employers are still seeking candidates for so-called scarce professions – technical professions across all branches, for example, welders, metalworkers, locksmiths, tool setters, electricians, CNC operators, lorry drivers, bus drivers etc. – and they can’t find these employees in the actual Labour Office records.

„It’s strange why they are, in a situation like this, still postpone the decision on facilitating the recruitment of workers from the Ukraine in case of clearly defined scarce professions that could help companies to cover the much needed qualifications,“ the Confederation’s Employers' Relations Director Jitka Hejduková pointed out. „The cooperation with the employers in the pre-selection of applicants using the active employment policy measures is a good way, but the employers‘ demand can’t be satisfied in such a way.“

Since the unemployment rate should gradually decrease in course of the spring months, it can be expected that the pressure on workers recruitment will rise.
