The Single Market Act

We need a strong political commitment to deliver concrete results!
Single market the highest priority

The Single Market Act adopted on 13 April by the European Commission should pave the way for a successful relaunch of the single market as a key driver for growth and job creation.

The Single Market Act presents 12 areas and for each area it presents a key action to be adopted till 2012. The Commission will also present the other measures that are expected to make a significant contribution to the relaunch of the Single Market. At the end of 2012 it will take stock of the progress of the current Action Plan and will present a programme for the next stage.

The Commission is calling on the EU institutions to give their full support to the Single Market Act, and particularly Parliament and Council to give the highest priority in the legislative process to the key actions.

European business supports the need for reinforced governance of the single market, as well as the focus on a reduced number of priorities with specific deadlines for their implementation.
