The 3rd Meeting of The EU-The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia Civil Society Joint Consultative Committee

 

The 3rd Meeting of The EU-The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia Civil Society Joint Consultative Committee was held on 8 July 2010 in Brussels under the co-chairmenship of Vladimíra Drbalová and Sašo Klekovski. The JCC´s meeting was attended by Mr. Vasko Naumovski, Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs, and Mr. Xhelal Bajrami, Minister for Labour and Social Policy, together with Ms. Alexandra Cas Granje, Director for Candidate Countries at the European Commission.

In the first part of the meeting a discussion on state of play of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia´s path towards the European Union was opened. Recalling the recommendation of the European Commission to the Council of the European Union to approve the opening of accession negotiations with the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, the participant regretted that no decision could be taken before the end of the first semester of 2010 and urged again the Council of the EU to open the accession negotiations.

The afternoon´s debate was focused on the transport policy in the Western Balkan region and the role of the Transport Community between the European Union and the Western Balkan Countries. The participants stressed particularly the social dimension of the reforming and restructuring process and called for better involvement of the social partners and civil society in this process.
