Joint Study on Restructuring in the EU - Final Conference
(Integrated Programme of the European Social Dialogue)
A final conference of the European Social Partners on restructuring in Europe was held on 20 - 21 January in Brussels based on the “Joint study on restructuring in the EU”. Alan Wild, project expert co-ordinator presented his synthesis report “Improving the anticipation and management of restructuring”. Alan Wild has focused mainly on the role of the social partners in the process of restructuring and introduced a “road map” for the development of the comprehensive social partner approach to the issues of restructuring, namely:
- Anticipating change and developing a shared diagnosis and agenda
- Assuring timely and relevant information and consultation
- Managing job transformations
- Preparing the workforce of the future
- Focus on small and micro- enterprises
- Transformational change
- Restructuring, social dialogue and crisis
The conference was structured in six sessions follow the proposed road map. The conference was attended by Armindo Silva, President of the EC Committee for Social Dialogue (European Commission, DG Employment). The European social partners were represented by Philippe de Buck, General Director of BUSINESSEUROPE, Joël Decaillon, Deputy Secretary General of ETUC, Ralf Resch, Secretary General of CEEP, and Andrea Benassi, Secretary General of UEAPME.
