Digital economy: Privacy Shield is fully operational from 1st August

Privacy-Shield-2

The Privacy Shield provides Europeans with the reassurance that their personal data will be protected by participating US companies, and that companies’ commitments to the Framework are enforceable under US law. With the Privacy Shield framework in place, companies in both Europe and America can seize the opportunities inherent in the transatlantic digital economy. Data flows are essential for global commerce and investment.

Reaching this agreement and its rapid adoption by the EU is great success for Czech European Commissioner Vera Jourova. Due to the economic and legal significance of this issue the Confederation of Industry of the Czech Republic (SP ČR) was active and long supported the rapid approval of the agreement on Privacy Shield by their action at EU level and also in the Czech Republic.

SP ČR is ready to provide to the European Commission and the Czech government its experience and expertise to ensure successful implementation of the agreement on Privacy Shield. The agreement should guarantee to Czech and European companies the conditions for its development and application of innovation based on data and thus for their competitiveness.

After publication in the Official Journal of the EU is Privacy Shield fully operational from 1st August 2016. The United States plays a key role in ensuring its success and to meet their commitments.

Privacy Shield is now open for companies to sign up on https://www.privacyshield.gov/.
