Confederation of Industry supports Serbia’s accession to the EU

Both heads of state, Czech President Miloš Zeman and his Serbian counterpart Tomislav Nikolić, took part in business forum which has been organized at the Serbian Chamber of Commerce and Industry office in Belgrade on Tuesday 1st April.

President Zeman stressed the importance of the traditionally good trade cooperation of both countries. Last year, the trade turnover between the Czech Republic and Serbia exceeded 670 million euros. The Czech export represents more than a half of this amount.

Nevertheless, the previous distinctly positive export balance is deteriorating now. Czech investments in Serbia amount to about 30 million euros.

The  annual pools organized by the Confederation of Industry confirm that a certain number of Czech companies look at Serbia as a potential investment destination.

„Our companies are considering investments, particularly in the context of the Stabilization and Association Agreement between the European Union and Serbia and the country’s expected accession to the EU,“ the Confederation’s President Jaroslav Hanák said.

The Czech companies are interested in public tenders for the main railway station in Belgrade and the railway corridors reconstruction. Other fields of interest are chemical production, water management, energy and mining industry.
