 sion of Ukraine\, war still rages on the EU’s eastern flank. Warnings th
 at Moscow could expand its aggression beyond Ukraine are growing more urge
 nt\, and hybrid threats are quickly becoming a daily preoccupation. Meanwh
 ile\, Hamas’s attack on October 7 ignited yet another crisis in the Midd
 le East\, spilling over to deepen the risk of regional instability\, while
  reshaping the security landscape.\nFor Europe\, these twin crises come at
  a precarious moment. With the result of U.S. election now clear\, the EU 
 must decide whether it is willing - and able - to take greater responsibil
 ity for its own security. A new European Parliament and Commission\, as we
 ll as crucial budgetary and financial negotiations - amongst other key top
 ics - will shape the bloc’s response. The coming years will reveal wheth
 er Europe can assert itself as a strategic actor\, transforming current ch
 allenges\, threats and hostilities into opportunities to take proactive le
