The current situation in Ukraine

The Confederation of Industry of the Czech Republic condemns the ongoing military operation and the Russian invasion of Ukraine. For the Confederation of Industry, the largest employers' union in the Czech Republic, the priority at this moment is people - both citizens of Ukraine in the Czech Republic, our colleagues and employees, and their family members in Ukraine.

At the moment, we are already negotiating with the relevant authorities and at the same time taking the necessary steps in three priority areas. It is necessary to:

  • Ensure a simple visa process for the family members of our Ukrainian colleagues and employees so that the rest of their families can enter the Czech Republic as soon as possible. This also requires coordinated assistance to ensure their quick and safe transportation and subsequent overall adaptation support process upon their arrival.
  • Discuss the state of affairs of Ukrainian employees working in the Czech Republic with the Ukrainian government and relevant organisations in case of additional escalation of the situation.
  • Automatically extend the validity of existing work and short-term visas for all Ukrainian citizens currently in the Czech Republic.

A number of our members have already started communication with their employees of Ukrainian origin to assure them of our support and readiness to assist as the situation develops and to continuously monitor and assess their concerns and needs. As SP CR, we will systematically develop and expand these activities together with our members.

The escalated situation and the expected sanctions will have a negative impact on many Czech companies. We stand ready to support the Czech government and the European Union in their actions, which will be both a justified response to aggression and violations of international law, but also minimize the impact of the conflict on the economy and society.

Our main and only priority at the moment is the well-being of impacted people and the concrete assistance that we can provide together with the Czech government and citizens.
