The leaders of European business will meet in Prague

The Confederation of Industry of the Czech Republic, on the occasion of the Czech Presidency, is hosting a key meeting of the Confederation BusinessEurope. From 2 to 3 June, more than 100 presidents, directors general and permanent delegates from 40 European federations of industry from 35 European countries will be welcomed to Prague. They will be discussing topical issues and business priorities for the upcoming six months. With this event at a top European level the Confederation of Industry is opening a series of events organised for the term of the Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU.

The Confederation of Industry of the Czech Republic, one month before the start of the Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU, is hosting a meeting of the Council of Presidents of BusinessEurope (COPRES- Council of Presidents of BusinessEurope). Leaders of European businesses will discuss key business issues for the upcoming six months at this important meeting. “It is an honour to welcome our colleagues from all over Europe to Prague. We wish to use this opportunity to show them our modern Czech industry and prove that we are well prepared for the Czech Presidency”, says Jaroslav Hanák, the President of the Confederation of Industry of the Czech Republic.

“I am delighted that when Europe faces unprecedented challenges, the Council of Presidents of BusinessEurope is meeting is in the Czech Republic, the most industrialised country in Europe. We will be deliberating the most urgent issues that European business has to face and the priorities of the Czech Presidency. It is wonderful to see to what extent the priorities we set out on behalf of the Confederation of Industry overlap with the priorities of the Czech government and the whole European business community. We want to focus on the strategic resilience of the European industry, energy security, future post-war rebuilding of Ukraine, further development of the single market, and an ambitious trade policy. This is an excellent starting position for cooperation in the upcoming half a year,“ says Radek Špicar, the Vice President of the Confederation of Industry of the Czech Republic and BusinessEurope.

During their two-day program, the representatives of industry confederations will have the opportunity to visit ŠKODA AUTO production and to meet with the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Mrs Marketa Adamová Pekarová. The leaders of the delegations of European confederations have a planned meeting with the minister of Industry and Trade, Mr Jozef Síkela. The highlight of the event will be Fridays meeting of the Council of Presidents of BusinessEurope where BusinessEurope delegates and its member federations will discuss topical issues relevant to business activities in Europe. Together with the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Mr Petr Fiala, they will also discuss the priorities for the Presidency of the Czech Republic in the Council of the EU.

About COPRES

The Confederation of Industry of the Czech Republic has been a member of BusinessEurope since 1993. The meeting of Presidents of member confederations of BusinessEurope takes place twice a year. Regularly it takes place in a country assuming the Presidency of the Council of the EU for the upcoming half a year. The Confederation of Industry will be hosting this Council of Presidents for the second time following the first CZPRES in 2009.
