Confederation’s President statement to Temelin

The Confederation of Industry regrets the decision of energy group CEZ to cancel the tender for two new blocks of the nuclear plantTemelin.

Czech energy group CEZ cancelled the tender for the construction of two blocks at the nuclear power plant Temelin on Thursday 10th April. The Confederation of Industry considers the decision as unfortunate for the Czech industry.

The Confederation‘s President Jaroslav Hanák commented the announcement of the ČEZ as follows:

  1.        The company ČEZ has the right to this kind of decision. I understand that it was the answer to the government‘s announcement not to provide state guarantees for the prices of electricity.
  2.        Regarding the Czech industrial companies, it’s a great pity. The „contract of the century“ has united them. There were business clusters formed for this purpose. We have initiated and supported their creation. A lot of companies invested large sums of money and energy into the preparation works.
  3.        I‘m optimistic a I believe that the construction will begin sometime in the future. We have to do everything possible for it, because we need new energy resources. But the government should say clearly what are its strategic plans and if it will support nuclear power.
