Unemployment is sinking gradually in the Czech Republic

The curve showing the unemployment rate in the Czech Republic for 2014 seems to be promising. So far, the Czech Republic ranks fourth as to the lowest unemployment rate in the EU, after the Netherlands, Germany and Austria, according to figures released by the Czech Ministry of Labour and Social Affaires.

According to the data published by the Czech Statistical Office on Friday 31th October, the unemployment rate amounted to 5,9 percent in September, whereas in August it was 6,3 percent.

In 2013, the unemployment rate of the Czech Republic made up 7 percent, compared with the EU average of 11 percent. On the other hand, the country has one of the lowest part-time employment in the EU  (5.8 percent) as compared to the 50-percent rate in the Nordic countries.

The Czech Republic ranks sixth as to the number of employed men over 55 years (62.6 percent). The employment rate of the women of the same age reaches 41,4 percent, so the Czech Republic is far below the EU average being now at 43.3 percent.

This indicator shows a rather rigid approach of both sides of the employment relation, as seemingly full-time jobs popularity/demand prevails. Thus, the unemployment ratio will remain at today’s level if the general approach to flexible forms of employment wouldn´t be changed.
