Confederation welcomes the state energy strategy adoption

The nuclear and renewable sources will be the main source of power generation in the Czech Republic.

The Confederation of Industry has greeted the Czech government‘s decision to approve the long-awaited Updated state energy strategy. The Confederation has been the main promoter demanding the adoption of the strategy, for example during the tripartite negotiations.

According to the document, the nuclear and renewable sources will be the main source of power generation in the Czech Republic in the decades ahead.

„The whole Europe moves toward the low-carbon energy,“ the Confederation’s vice-president Daniel Beneš stressed. „It is thus logical that the Czech Republic reflects this trend. The concrete measures can’t be at he expense of the Czech industry‘s competitiveness.“

The approved strategy comprises six basic scenarios of the long-term development fot he Czech energy sector until 2040.

The most likely development comprised in the optimum scenario means that the nuclear power will bet he primary energy source, followed by natural gas and crude oil.

In the approved strategy, the construction of new nuclear blocks is envisaged which could create incentives for the Czech nuclear industry that has a strong tradition and know-how.

Industry and Trade minister Jan Mládek indicated that the government wants to push through the use of coal power sources as well.

An independent study is currently being worked out regarding the brown coal mining limits in the north of Bohemia. The study is to find out if it pays off to lift the limits set back in 1991.
