Central and Eastern Europe industrialists‘ initiative in Split

Employers want less regulation, but more of a good quality one.

This year‘s first meeting of the employers‘ associations from the Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) took place in the Croatian town of Split on 28th and 29th May.

As always, the participants from the Czech Republic, Croatia, Hungary, Austria, Slovakia and Slovenia exchanged information on political, economic and social situation in their countries and agreed on common challenges as the implementation of structural reforms, simplification of taxation system, modernization of the educational system and fighting corruption.

One of the two main topics discussed at the meeting was the European business requirement on better legislative, more transparency, consultation of interested parties, creation of a commission controling the quality of the reforms‘ impact evaluation (Regulatory scrutiny board), strengthening of the commission’s independence and creation of the REFIT platform composed of the member countries‘ experts as well as of the European Economic and Social Commitee, Regional Committee and tripartite and civil society representatives.

Within the discussion, a good example from the Czech Republic as well as the activities and the composition of the Czech „scrutiny body“ have been presented.

The CEE initiative representatives agreed on a common approach to the top representation in the REFIT platform, especially as to the businessmen milieu representatives.

The members of the CEE initiative agreed on mutual information on the TTIP national level communication. A common statement of the Confederation of Industry of the Czech Republic, Czech Chamber of Commerce and Confederation of the Employers‘ and Entrepreneurs‘ Associations of the Czech Republic on the TTIP has been presented at the Split meeting as well.
