Let's prepare ourselves to adopt the euro, the Confederation said

The Czech entrepreneurs support the euro adoption, the population is against it.

Four fifth of the Czech employers in the industry and transport fields support the Czech Republic‘s entry into the eurozone. Such is the result of the latest survey organized by the Confederation of Industry of the Czech Republic.

„The majority of our members support the adoption of the euro,“ Confederation’s president Jaroslav Hanák pointed out. In his opinion, the Czech political representation should declare unequivocally its interest to create conditions for the adoption of the common European currency.

„We welcomed the discussion at the highest level that took place in the presidential summer residency in Lány,“ Hanák said. „We are convinced that the debate should be lead seriously and at the expert level and it should explain to the public the benefits and costs of the euro adoption with the aim of gaining as much support as possible.“

The Confederation is ready to take part in such a debate and present its arguments in favor of the adoption of the common currency. It is very probable that one of the main topics of such a debate will be the exchange rate between the euro and the Czech crown. The Confederation of Industry is not convinced of the necessity to organize a referendum on euro adoption.

The Czech government should move forward in guaranteeing the condition for the euro adoption and prepare a schedule of next steps that are necessary to be taken for the Czech republic’s entry into the eurozone. The Confederation of Industry considers the discussion in the Lány presidential summer residence to be the beginning of such a debate and invites all the important institutions to resume this discussion and present their practical ad businesslike arguments.

The April survey of the Ipsos institute has nevertheless shown that 85 percent of the Czech population is against the adoption of euro.
