The main topic of the discussion was the support given to the technical education in the Czech Republic.

The Czech government is supporting the activities of the Year of Industry and Technical Education's initiative proclaimed by the Confederation of Industry of the Czech Republic this year to improve conditions for closer cooperation between the schools and industrial companies. The participants in the meeting, the representatives of the Confederation, Czech prime minister Bohuslav Sobotka and the minister of education, youth and sport Kateřina Valachová, discussed the Confederation's priorities and aims in the technical education field on Thursday 23th July.

The main emphasis has been placed on proper strategy in the regional education, key elements of the dual education, high school finance reform, compulsory entrance examination and high school graduation mathematics exam, as well as on setting capacities at the vocational schools according to the labour market needs, polytechnic education's support at the grammer schools and practical education's support at the high schools.

The participants in the meeting agreed that it is necessary to improve the financing system in the regional education field. According to Sobotka, the rules of regional education financement could be simplified within the existing legislative framework. As the Czech prime minister stressed, he wants to contribute to the improvement of the communication between the regional administration and local companies.

„It was the first time that the prime minister visited the Confederation's headquarters," Confederation's president Jaroslav Hanák pointed out. „That's a signal that the Czech government realizes the necessity to support the technical education to enhance the competitiveness of the country."
