Entrepreneurs demand support for the digital economy

The Czech government doesn't meet its priorities in the digital market field.

During the meeting of the Council of Economic and Social Agreement (tripartite) organized on Monday's 27th July, the employer's representatives handed over to the Czech prime minister Bohuslav Sobotka an appeal presented by the Czech industry and trade to meet the governmental programme priorities in the digital economy and digital market field.

Despite his official policy statement, the Czech government doesn't support the information and communication technologies (ICT) sufficiently. The largest entrepreneurs' and employers' associations are demanding first of all an uniform covering of the problematics at the government's level.

„We are convinced that the Czech government should assume an active role in the digital economy development process to fully utilize the digital technologies's potential in the course of our economy's development," the Appeal's authors wrote.

The Appeal has been signed by the representatives of the Confederation of Industry of the Czech Republic, the Bohemian and Moravian Electrotechnical Association, the ICT UNION, the Czech Confederation of Commerce and Tourism as well as by other societies and organizations.

„The government lacks a clear vision of what it wants to do in the digital agenda field," Confederation of Industry's board member Milena Jabůrková pointed out. „There are 33 national strategies for ICT and 12 other with a European overlapping at the Czech ministries today and a unifying element is missing fully."

First of all, the signatories demand that a general ICT coordinator at the government appointee's level would be nominated who will coordinate the digital agenda field and guarantee an effective cooperation with the authorities.
