Unemployment continues to decrease

The unemployment rate in the Czech Republic continued decreasing in September, to 6,0 percent as of 30th September (compared to 7,3 percent in September 2014), according to the statistics published by the Ministry of Social Affairs.

Approximately 442 thousand job seekers were registered officially by the Czech Labour Office as of end of September, compared to 451 thousand in August 2015 or nearly 530 thousand a year ago. Over 44 thousand job seekers started a new job in September.

On the regional level, the unemployment rate has further decreased in 71 regions over the last month, and has slightly risen in 6 regions (the highest increase being that of 1,6 percent in Bruntál region).

The unemployment rate remains high in Northern Bohemia (Ústí district 9,1 percent) and Northern Moravia (8,4 percent). Only 6 regions continue to evidence unemployment rate in excess of 10 percent (Most 11,5%, Karviná 11,1%, Ústí nad Labem 10,7%, Bruntál 10,5 % and the City of Ostrava 10,2%).

The number of job offerings through the Labour Office continued to increase and reached 108,5 thousand as of 30th September (compared to approximately 56,5 thousand in September 2014) corresponding to the current trend of economic growth.

As in the previous month, approximately 60 thousand job seekers benefited from the supportive measures within the governmental Active Employment Policy (community works, so-called socially beneficial positions and protected positions for disabled persons) in September 2015.
